Bedford Fire Dept. Company 1
The Bedford Volunteer Fire Department is located in the City of Bedford, VA approximately 25 miles east of Roanoke and 20 miles west of Lynchburg. Organized in 1888, the Bedford Volunteer Fire Department was Bedford City and County's only organized fire protection until 1952.

Bedford Life Saving Crew (Squad 1)
The Bedford Life Saving and First Aid Crew, Inc. was formed on July 8, 1943 with a mere 15 members and one Ford truck. They currently have approximately 35 members, 4 fully stocked ambulances, a crash truck, and 2 response vehicles.

Big Island Fire Dept. Company 2
The Big Island Fire Company was established in 1951. It is the oldest fire department to be stationed in Bedford County.

First Hose Co. of Boonsboro, MD was started in 1832 and branched out opening their Rohrersville, MD substation in Sept. of 1998. Their station is situated in a rural area of Washington County, MD.

The Forest Fire Department is located just off Rt. 811 and Rt. 221 in Forest and is one of the busier fire companies in the county.

The Goode Volunteer Rescue Squad was founded in 1993. The squad is made up of a small dedicated group of people who spend much of their spare time serving the emergency medical needs of the community.
