Strip Mall Fire
Sat. Jun 20th 2009

At approximately 18:00 hours, Forest Company 5 (1st due), Lynchburg City (2nd due) and Bedford Company 1 (RIT) were assigned to 18024 for a commercial structure fire.  Boonsboro Company 3 and Brookville-Timberlake Company 12 were also added to the assignment.  Engine 7 arrived first from Lynchburg City to find a multi-office commercial structure with heavy fire showing.  Lynchburg Battalion 2 then arrived to assume Forest Road command issuing a defensive attack.  Engine7, Engine 5, Pumper 5 and Fire-Rescue 3 laid over 3,000 feet of 5" hose for both aerial and ground operations.  Company 3 members helped to extinguish the fire and provide a water curtain for the two structures from radiant heat on the delta side.  Units worked on scene for hours while Forest Road (221) between Graves Mill Road and Cottontown Road was completely shut down.  The fire originated on the back porch, but is still under investigation.  Even though the building was a total loss, no lives were lost and no injuries were reported.  Units operating on scene were P-5, R-5, E-5, C-5, Battalion 2, Truck 2, E-7, E-3, E-8, L-1, FR-3, E-12, L-12, C-12, Medic 5-4, Medic 5-8, Medic 6-2, Medic 7, rehab from Crash 5, County 1, County 3, County16, BCSO, LPD, VASP and VDOT.  Thanks to everyone's hard work.  Many thanks also to the staff of Burger-King, McDonald's and Domino's for donating food.
